CSU Bakersfield Computer Science Dept. Book Donation
History
In December 2008,
Dr. Melissa Danforth,
a Computer Science professor at
CSU Bakersfield
(and past LUGOD member), heard that LUGOD was planning on giving away its
lending library, which it stopped
maintaining in March 2008.
Just prior to our 10th
anniversary meeting, she provided a list of books that CSUB's
Computer Science department
could utilize, which we set aside. The remaining books were brought to the
anniversary meeting, and meetings that followed, and eventually the rest were
given to the Friends of the
Davis Public Library, or (in the case of very out-of-date titles)
recycled.
Hand-Off
Due to the great distance between Davis and Bakersfield, it took many
months to get the books handed off. Eventually, it worked out!
LUGOD member Nick Schmalenberger, now living in the
SF Bay Area, was able to grab the books in Davis and bring
them to the
LISA '10 conference
in San Jose and deliver them to Dr. Danforth.
CSU Bakersfield CS Dept. Library
In June 2011, Dr. Danforth sent us a
draft PDF of a "Thank You" poster
that will be posted in the CS department's library.
She also hopes to provide a photo of the library and poster, to share
with LUGOD.

Bill Kendrick, current president of LUGOD, says:
"You're welcome! We're glad our library found a good home!"
