posted there, but if you know of anyone hiring people with skills you

Root(President), Sys(VP), and /dev/null(Treasurer) remain the same, with an opening

Linux Foundation Energy Project Speaker

Open-Source concepts into the national power system, and thanks to Dr. Goodman
for speaking to the group! We'll be providing additional links and resources

Market Event Canceled Due to Weather

Paper handouts and electronics just don't mix with a high chance of rain and
gusts of up to 25mph, so our scheduled Davis Farmer's Market booth event on
February 09 2019 is being canceled for now. Many thanks to the members
who volunteered booth time for this event. We'll reschedule for a later date
with better weather!

20th Anniversary Meeting

LUGOD celebrated its 20th anniversary yesterday with an amazing group of
people down at Woodstock's Pizza, and many thanks to LUGOD co-founder Bill Kendrick
for making an appearance by videoconference! And further thanks to the other club founders,
original members, and all the past and present officers, members, and other friends for
making it possible to keep the community spirit going. We couldn't keep doing it
without your support.

Third Market Event Success

We held our third event at the Davis Farmer's Market on Saturday, December 8th, and

Tech Cafe Success/Elections Delayed

Our mini tech cafe was a success, despite the smoke! Multiple machines were set up
for people to engage with Linux and FOSS, and visitors brought their computers
and technical questions. However, since two officers called out sick, we decided
to delay the formal elections until December's general meeting on 12/17. See you

Bylaw Changes Approved

Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting tonight! Nominations were opened and
several minor changes to the club Bylaws were voted on, as discussed at last month's
meeting and on the Vox mailing list. Details will be available in the Minutes and
released on Vox shortly. We're also preparing for the next farmer's market

Listserv Issues

Apologies to members who are subscribed to our mailing lists, including vox and vox-announce, if you
receive either no emails or duplicate email from the lists. Our listserv IP address was apparently banned by
Microsoft/Office 365 sometime in the past month, resulting in a ton of list emails bouncing to all our members whose email
services are MS-based. This includes all @ucdavis.edu, @outlook.com, and many others. An application to de-list our
IP has been made.

Linux user survey

distributions people are using, what they're using Linux for, favorite
F/OSS software, etc. We're hoping to use it to tailor future LUGOD

AlphaGo and Kodi talks

Join us this month (Feb. 20th) at Explorit for a talk
on AlphaGo, Google DeepMind's aritificial neural network-based
program that was the first to beat a professional Go player,
and next month (March 20th) at the public library for
a presentation on Kodi (previously Xbox Media Center (XBMC))!

Treasurer and VP positions

Tim Thatcher, our treasurer, offered to nominate himself for the
vacant vice president ("sys") position, if someone else would be
willing to step in as treasurer ("/dev/null"). Will Marshall nominated
himself at this week's general meeting, and both positions were
accepted by those in attendance with no objection. (No vote was held,
since both were running unopposed.) Congratulations and thanks!
That said, LUGOD is still in need of a president! If you're interested
in nominating yourself or someone else, email

LUGOD site hosting has been migrated

Thanks to Rod Roark of Sunset Systems for continuing to host our website
and mailing lists. A few momembers ago, we migrated to a new VPS, and
our DNS entries for *.lugod.org have been updated to point to it.
All seems well so far, but let us know if you notice any quirks!

will be speaking at UC Davis at noon on Oct. 17th, the
same day they'll be visiting LUGOD (later in the evening).

to be CSLUG at Chico State, but they seemed to disappear
back in 2008.) If you have any tips on running a club,

We didn't get a speaker lined up for August's meeting, and most of
the club officers will be out of town on the day of the meeting,
so we've decided to cancel. We still have a social gathering tonight
(Tue. Aug. 2) and next month (Tue. Sep. 6).

EFF at the Davis Community Forum

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF)'s Shahid Buttar and Amul Kalia
will attend the Davis Community Forum next Thursday, June 2nd, and hosted
by the Yolo County ACLU chapter. They'll be speaking on a panel about
"Local Community Organizing Strategies" and "Measures to Protect Rights
in the Digital Era."
