ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Sun Microsystems is looking for a Staff Engineer to join a new project
developing "Petabyte scale" storage technology.
The engineer will join a team of engineers developing an application
server and development environment for large scale storage systems. The
successful candidate will have strong entrepreneurial skills and a desire
to create new technologies and products. Principal responsibilities
include design and development of related software features for a clustered
storage product.
This engineer is expected to take responsibility for producing and
maintaining fully tested and documented software. In addition, this position
involves software development, knowledge of horizonal scaling (clustering) Linux
computer systems, debugging, and analytic problem solving skills. Also
important are excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the
ability to write technical documentation and engineering specifications.
Our team is based in San Francisco and Mountain View and we have a fun,
flexible and challenging team environment.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:
- Java
- XML,esp protocol development, e.g. SOAP
- Linux
- Clustering
- File System design
- Developer API design
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
- C / C++
- File system design
- Clustering, esp file system design in clusters
- Protocol design a plus, e.g. NFS
- Java experience a plus
- Familiarity with peer to peer concepts and technologies
- Linux experience a plus
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Participation on cross functional product teams
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: 5
