I do think highly of the Opera Software people, and it's not just
Norwegians sticking together.  ;->

I'd previously never heard of 'von' in Norwegian language (in that
context[1]), but it appears to have the same meaning in both Norwegian
and Danish that it does in German, when encountered as part of surnames
(which is to say, a feudal title of nobility, not royal descent).  I
gather that the usage is pretty rare -- but there's this guy, for
example (Technical Director at the Bergen Museum):

However, the entire aristocracy was abolished in Norway as part of the
1821 Nobility Law, and hasn't existed there since (except, of course,
people are still welcome to brag about their ancestors and recite
obsolete mediaeval titles if they have nothing else to be proud of).

[1] FWIW, the word 'von' is actually also a common noun in the Norwegian
language, meaning hope, expectation.  That's the only sense I would have
thought of prior to hearing about von Tetzchner.
