To: svlug-announce@lists.svlug.org

We're pleased to announce the next meeting of the Silicon Valley Linux
Users Group!
WHAT:
Open Source Licensing
WHEN:
Wednesday, 07 Apr, 7pm-9pm or so.
WHO:
Larry Rosen, General Counsel, Open Source Initiative
BACKGROUND:
The definition of Open Source software revolves around the various kinds
of Open Source licenses. Mr Rosen will discuss Open Source licensing and
current legal issues which affect Open Source software. Q&A will follow
the presentation.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
(excerpt from his bio at rosenlaw.com) Lawrence E. (Larry) Rosen is
both an attorney and a computer specialist. As an attorney Larry's
specialty is technology, but he is also a skilled litigator and
negotiator, and is a legal advisor to individuals and companies
throughout the world. He also has extensive experience teaching
computer programming, and has been a department and product manager in
the computer and communications industry.
Larry is very involved in the Open Source community. He is the
general counsel and secretary of the Open Source Initiative (OSI), and
served as its executive director. OSI reviews and approves major open
source licenses, several of which were written by Larry. OSI manages
and promotes the Open Source Definition for the good of the community,
specifically through the OSI Certified open source software
certification mark and program. Larry often publishes and speaks around
the world on open source licensing and patent issues.
WHERE:
Cisco Building 9 in Cisco's "Vineyards Conference Center". This is at
Cisco Systems' East Tasman campus in North San Jose.
Usually we have only half of the conference center so you'll be directed
right or left once inside to the side where the meeting is. Directions on
how to get there are listed at:
http://www.svlug.org/directions/cisco-9.shtml
We've tried our very best for these directions to be accurate. If you
have any improvements to make, please let our Web Team know!
web-team@svlug.org
NOTES:
If you arrive with the peak of the crowd, there may be a small line
at the sign-in table.
After the speakers end their presentation there is usually a Q&A session,
time for job seekers and employers to meet, and often door prizes when
any are provided to SVLUG. When the meeting is over people are encouraged
to chat a bit, but also to exit the building so Cisco can lock up. Don't
worry, a lot of us go to dinner afterward so there's plenty of time to chat
outdoors or offsite.
We look forward to seeing you there!
If you just can't get enough, a smaller group usually goes to IHOP at
Great America Parkway and Mission College Blvd in Santa Clara after the
meeting.
