THE POSITION
Troubleshoot complex Windows networking issues.
Debug and Enhance Linux system utilities.
Create internal utilities to troubleshoot and manage the Uptiva appliance.
Administer System / Networking using Linux tools (backup / restore).
Evaluate new Linux open source projects for use with Uptiva appliance.

Position Description:
Develop / enhance Linux system components for the Uptiva (appliance)
application.  Work with Product Marketing and Sales to understand product
requirements.  Mentor other team members.  Reports to the VP of Engineering.
Technical tasks include:

Required Technology Skills:
C, Python and Perl programming experience
Shell / Bash scripting experience
Windows/Linux networking experience (TCP, Samba, CIFS)
Experience working with Ubuntu / Debian Linux distribution

Desired Technology Skills:
Java and SQL programming experience
Building appliance-based software solutions
Building enterprise-class products
Experience with virtualization products (preferably VMWare)

Required Experience:
5-10 years programming experience.  Preferably in small company or start-up
environments.
Technical  team leadership experience
BS in Computer Science or related degree or equivalent experience
Ideal Personal Characteristics
Technology Savvy -  The ability to come up to speed quickly on new
technologies relative to software in complex, non deterministic systems
environment. 

Personal Integrity & Initiative - A high-energy individual with sound
judgment who is sensitive to the needs of a small and rapidly growing
company.  Key attributes are intelligence, loyalty, honesty and being a team
player. A self starter with high motivation to 'get the job done'.

Hands-on Orientation - Prepared to be involved in the hands on aspects of
software development.  Will 'roll-up-the-sleeves' and get things done

Excellent Problem Solving Skills - Ability to crack tough technical problems
quickly when a solution is not immediately obvious. A combination of mental
flexibility, creativity, analytical ability and sound judgment, which is
required to develop and execute against seemingly intractable technical
problems.

Compensation:
The important contribution expected of the Lead Linux Systems Engineer is
reflected in an aggressive compensation program, including a salary
commensurate with experience and generous equity which could result in
