1. Technical Leader (LINUX Internals Engineer)

Job Description:
Participate in an engineering team designing and developing S/W
infrastructure and features for an integrated network security and higher
layer services mechanism providing technical consultation and authoritative
technical leadership on the system S/W design. Specific focus will be on the
definition, specification and implementation of S/W infrastructure for
applications. Contribute to definition of system architecture. Take a
leadership role in the technical content of the system specification/unit
functional specification. Produce functional and design specifications based
on the infrastructure S/W architecture. Initiate and facilitate reviews of
these designs. Create designs and implement software infrastructure such
that the underlying architecture can be used on multiple platforms with
little or no modifications. Undertake rapid prototyping for early proof of
concept and deliver modular, product-quality code on schedule. Work with
platform groups to integrate this software into their respective platforms.
This includes facilitating meetings, championing the design, justifying the
design decisions, and incorporating feedback and requirements back into the
architecture and design. Primarily involves investigations and design but
fair amount of coding is also required.


Work with management to identify key technologies and create product thrust.
Take responsibility for leading technical decisions required on a project.
May have intra-departmental impact important to success of company. Take
responsibility for technical content of design reviews and code
walkthroughs. To help engineers find ways to attack new or difficult
problems. Propose technical direction for major engineering initiatives and
ensures that all work related to initiatives is technically compatible.
Develops or reviews major interface specifications. Identifies possible
mismatches between Company’s direction and future market changes.

Skills Required:

Must have in-depth knowledge of OS such as UNIX, LINUX etc. Must have
experience designing S/W infrastructure for large system. Must have
experience in some of the following: Multi-threaded programming, writing S/W
in a SMP/NUMA environment, designing and implementing High Availability
systems, Device Drivers, ISR, system programming, writing Kernel S/W,
development of protocol stack. Must also have ability to apply new
technology and ability to design implement and integrate multiple subsystems
of a system. Must be able to work independently and in a team setting. Be
able to provide technical leadership at the cross-functional level. Must be
able to evaluate alternative solutions from technical, business and
deployment perspectives, make choices and justify these choices. Must have
excellent verbal and writing skills. Should be able to interpret complex
specifications and derive implementations out of this. Be able to propose
solutions that may be outside of the specifications.

Assignments are often self-initiated. Determines and pursues courses of
action necessary to obtain desired results. Interfaces cross-functionally
and leads synergistic teams with a full range of competencies and skills.
Influences and/or changes the thinking of, or gains acceptance of, others.
Interfaces cross-functionally and leads collaboration extending beyond
workgroup. Exercises broad independent judgment to determine method for
issue resolution. Tackles complex issues in creative ways. Problem solving
requires originality and ingenuity using knowledge gained during engineering
career with little to no manager input. Applies knowledge of Company's
business strategies to proactively anticipate business needs based on
industry trends.

Educational Background Recommended:
Typically requires BS in CS/CE or equivalent with 8 to 10 years or MS in
CS/CE or equivalent with 6+ years in developing infrastructure and system
programming.

Job Description:
Participate in an engineering team designing and developing extensive
network management infrastructure for an integrated network and compute
services platform providing technical consultation and authoritative
technical leadership on the management S/W design. Specific focus will be on
the definition, specification and implementation of a unified management S/W
infrastructure for varied applications such as L2/L3, Security and higher
layer services, and for H/W provisioning and management using varied access
methods such as command line, SNMP, and programmable interfaces such as
XML/SOAP. Contribute to definition of management system architecture. Take a
leadership role in the technical content of the system specification/unit
functional specification. Produce functional and design specifications based
on the management S/W architecture. Initiate and facilitate reviews of these
designs. Create designs and implement software infrastructure such that the
underlying architecture can be used on multiple platforms with little or no

projects that may include any of the following list of responsibilities:
build of a major SW release, including building the software, coordinating
with other departments, and participating in scheduling (from conception to
testing). Design and deliver management infrastructure software after
specification of system requirements. Demonstrate innovation in defining
product and project level architecture, and be able to aid technical leaders
and management in helping to understand the implementation issues.
Influences the design of interfaces between products to ensure
interoperability. Resolve design issues. Develop large portions of software
independently and rapidly. Champion new improved design methodologies. Work
cross functionally to leverage designs done by other teams as well as to
ensure that the design being developed is in line with the rest of the
products to ensure inter-op and future reuse. Expected to work independently
once the problem definition is formulated with management, other engineers
and Tech. Leads.

Experience with higher layer (L4 - L7) protocols a plus.

Skills Required:
Should be able to apply extensive experience as a networking generalist or
specialist. Requires experience with more than one of the LAN/WAN, network
layer or higher layer protocols. Knowledge in any of the following areas is
a plus: FW, IDS, IPSec, SSL, Server Load-balancing, other security features
(AAA, RADIUS etc.), writing S/W in a SMP/NUMA environment, Device Drivers,
system programming, writing Kernel S/W. Possess in-depth knowledge of own
product and broad knowledge of other related products. Have a good
understanding of the design practices. Must have superior bug fixing and
testing skills. Initiates informal reviews of ideas and technical objectives
within and across business units. Work is performed with a small amount of
management/Tech. lead direction. Translates BU level goals into own work
assignments. Interfaces cross-functionally to understand and leverage work
done by other teams. Encourages and accepts personal feedback. Provides
implementation details to leads and management to complete the system
architecture. Proposes solutions to solve problems where protocol might not
exist.

Programming skills in IOS a plus.
Educational Background Recommended:
Typically requires BS in CS/CE/EE or equivalent with 5 to 7 years or MS in
CS/CE/EE with 4+ years in developing in IOS or in other OS such as UNIX or
LINUX protocols and higher layer applications and writing system software.
