Bill, thanks for sharing this stuff. It's interesting to
see how the market looks from others' points of view. And
congratulations on the LGP selection!

I'm also looking for work, but have pretty much given up on
being an employee - instead focusing on looking for clients
that want to outsource software projects. So if you or
anyone else comes across any of those, please clue me in!
(resume at http://sunsetsystems.com/rodsresume.html).

Right now I'm filling in time by working on a browser-based
gaming service. We're talking parlor games here, not
arcade. I have the guts of a backgammon client working now,
which interacts with a well-known public backgammon server.
It's a web application that runs on my Linux box, and
there's also a proxy daemon (C code) in the mix that
mediates between the (PHP) web apps and the server.

But the really interesting part is the client-side
JavaScript. You can do some very cool things with a
reasonably current web browser - stuff that looks like Java
applets but is not.

As a whole, the project demonstrates the value of a wide
range of experience. I'll do some announcing on vox when I
have something more presentable.

Cheers,
