2009.04.20 Meeting Notes

Location

Davis Public Library

Project Reports

  • Installfests — Still no venue has been found for our future installfests.
  • LERT — No news.
  • Library — A number of books (which CSU Bakersfield were not interested in) were brought to tonight's meeting as free give-aways. The remaining books are still in Henry's possession, and none that CSUB want have been shipped, yet.

Other Business

  • Whole Earth Festival - WEF takes place May 10-12 at UC Davis. An application has been submitted. Nick finally got ahold of someone at WEF today, but they said they will call him back. If we are accepted, we'll need volunteers to burn CDs and staff the booth.
  • CommunityOne Conference & OSCON - It's possible for LUGOD (either alone, or with other LUGs) to get a ".org booth" at both the CommunityOne Conference (which takes place simultaneously with Sun's JavaOne) in San Francisco on June 1st-3rd, and O'Reilly's Open Source Convention (OSCON) in San Jose, July 20th-24th. If you have an opinion, or would like to offer to help organize and/or staff such boothes, please post a note to LUGOD's 'vox-outreach' mailing list.
  • Venue needed - The Davis branch of the Yolo County Library will be undergoing renovation soon. UC Davis may be suitable for summer months (no parking fee and no crowds). Alex has mentioned that city facilities appear to be $20/hr (which is cheaper than the $40+/hr Bill remembers the Veterans Memorial Center charged, before we had the Library as our main venue). Gilbert mentioned that the Davis Mac Users Group meets at the Senior Center for free, and will provide more details and the DMUG contact to Bill over email.
  • News — Oracle is buying Sun! BALUG meets tomorrow in San Francisco: Allison Randal on "Parrot." PenLUG meets Thursday in Mountain View: Christian Einfeldt of the Digital Tipping Point: "Roll your own movie." It's "Penguin Day" this Saturday in San Francisco. And the next LUGOD general meeting will be on May 18th: Oracle is visiting.
  • Financial Report — $23.74 in voluntary dues were collected.
