Project Reports

  • Demo — No news.
  • Installfests — Chris McKenzie has left Davis, so Alex Mandel is now the sole coordinator of our Installfests. If someone else can help co-coordinate, please let us know. The next Installfest is unscheduled, but might take place on Saturday, September 6th. There are alread 3 interested parties.
  • LERT — No news.
  • Library — No news.

Other Business

  • Upcoming Events — Chris DiBona, Open Source Program Manager at Google, Inc. will be speaking at BALUG in San Francisco tomorrow (August 19th).
  • Linux Picnic — Picn*x XVII, the Linux 17th anniversary picnic and BBQ, took place in Sunnyvale on Saturday, August 9th. Richard Harke attended, and said it was slightly bigger than last year (but smaller than previous years), with probably around 100 attendees.
  • Software Freedom Day — SFD takes place September 20th. LUGOD is planning to sign up to have a booth at the Davis Farmer's Market (7am setup, 8am-1pm event). Some volunteers are available, but we still need more. We also need a table (Bill will ask Henry House), and CDROMs. We requested discs from SFD after they had given them all out, so asked Canonical's ShipIt for a batch. They sent ~10 copies of Ubuntu 8.04.
  • Upcoming LUGOD Meetings — Bill Kendrick will discuss libcrtxy, a vector-graphics game programming library in September (possibly at Wickson Hall at UCD). code_swarm, a tool that visualizes the history of a software repository, will be demonstrated and discussed in October. And the CEO of ZaReason in Berkeley will come speak about basing a commercial company (they sell Linux-based computers) on open source. No speaker is scheduled for December. January will be our 10 year anniversary meeting.
  • Financial Report — No voluntary dues were collected.
