2003.10.20 Meeting Notes

News

Project Reports

  • Demo - No demo scheduled.

  • Installfests - October 19th Installfest (CS Club's) was cancelled.

  • LERT - No recent LERT activity.

  • Library - Nothing to report.

Other Business

  • Projector - LUGOD has a projector! Mike Simons picked it up at Costco for $999.99 plus tax ($1082.49). A Sharp Notevision PG-A10X, XGA resolution (1024x768) with good antialiasing at other resolutions. It has two brightness modes: 1300 lumens (~3000 hour bulb life) and 1000 lumens (~4500 hours). It didn't come with a replacement bulb, but did come with a case.

  • ISSA Conference - Doug has 35-40 Knoppix discs for our booth at the conference.

  • Book Give-Away - Pearson Edcuation sent more titles to LUGOD, so we gave them out to whoever wanted them (since attendace was too low for a raffle to make much difference!)

  • Financial Report - $28.64 in voluntary dues were collected.

Presentation

Edward Cherlin, Encore Technologies -- "Erasing the Digital Divide - The Simputer Portable Computer"

Presentation notes are available in OpenOffice.org format: Linux_for_the_Poor.sxi
