Hi everyone,
It pains me to no end to announce that LUGOD's March 16th meeting has
been cancelled for public health concerns, but after discussion and
debate, it seems like the right thing to do. The April social (04/07)
and general meeting (04/20) have both also been cancelled.
I really hoped to avoid it, but it is what it is. The Davis Public
Library has cancelled all events, the Davis Co-op has cancelled
classes and events, campus has begun seriously restricting group
meetings, nearby school districts are closing, and both Yolo County
and the California Department of Public Health guidelines suggest
postponing public gatherings, though there is no hard ban yet.
(https://www.yolocounty.org/Home/Components/News/News/10547/26 for
more information.)
BUT! Look for us again in May, by which time things will hopefully
have settled out a bit. I'm optimistic that we'll be able to have a
social on 05/05 and bring back our excellent planned GNOME speaker on
05/18 - I'll provide an update closer to the May meeting dates based
on how the global and local situations unfold in the coming weeks.
And hey, just because we're not meeting in person for the next two
months doesn't mean that your local Linux nerds have gone away! Join
us on IRC any time if you want to chat in real time -
http://www.lugod.org/irc/ has instructions on how to connect,
including a web client you can use directly within a browser. Or post
to the Vox mailing list (see http://www.lugod.org/mailinglists/ to
subscribe) and start some discussion.
I hope we'll all get to see each other again soon!
Stay safe,
-Tim
