Wow, I'm gonna have to read up on those details--  I had read about Linus being insensitive by using the word "retard" or something but violence threats-- yikes!  I hope we can talk some sense into such folks, or get them out of leadership roles.
Just wanted to mention that, though I've yet to listen to it, this podcast's show notes indicate that they address it in their 8 Oct episode:
