Event: Screening: The Art of the Algorithms

   Date: Friday, Jan 10th, 2013 at 7:00pm.

Venue: Davis Makerspace, 221 G Street, Suite 1337 (In Tim Spencer Alley
   behind Bistro 33). Davis, California

   Web: DavisMakerspace.org, contact at davismakerspace.org

Davis Makerspace presents a screening of the movie
*The Art of the Algorithms*, a story by Szilard Matusik about the artists
and programmers who made graphical and sound shorts during the 80*s and
90*s without the aid of graphical tools. Starting in Eastern Europe, the
popularity of the form grew from the underground distribution of pirated
consul video-games, that had unique intros or *demos* to games. As the
form became more popular, the games were downplayed, and the demos took
center stage. Large communities of enthusiasts created beautiful
movements, shapes, and colors with only the smallest amount of
computational processing, quite a feat for any era. For more information,
   go to: http://molemanfilm.com/about-moleman/about-moleman-2/ .

DMS will demonstrate a newly made demo by Wesley Aptekar-Cassels and also
answer questions about their tools and facilities. Refreshments will be
provided. This event is free and open to the public.

About Davis Makerspace: Davis Makerspace is a diverse group of builders,
makers, hackers, and programmers who share an interest in science,
technology, art, and what happens when those interests collide. They work
with hardware and software, metal and wood. They build robots and
trebuchets. They teach and they learn. But above all else, they make.
