I wasn't at GTC for most of the day, so I'm not sure how the morning
went. (I'm not even sure we had someone there for the morning. Seth and
Scott both showed up just after noon and there was nobody at the booth.)
I'll let one of them tell you how this afternoon went.
I just went through our box of supplies, and it looks like we've got
just under 200 Knoppix discs left. We started with around 550 (we got
just over 500 from CheapBytes, and we had a stack donated on Wednesday
morning. I believe these came from Bill Heitman, but I may be
remembering wrong.) So we gave out over 350 over 3 days. I'm not sure
how many GnuWin discs we started with, but it was well over 200. We've
got about 65 left. I'm guessing we actually went through over 200. I
know we handed out well over 100 on Wednesday.
Overall, I think it was a pretty good show. I know we had a lot of
people (much more than last year) who had actually heard of Linux, and
thought about trying it out. Hopefully they'll get a lot of use out of
the Knoppix discs. We also talked to a number of people who had a some
specific Linux questions. We refered at few people to the install fest
info on lugod.org to fix specific problems they were having with either
installation or configuration. There were also a number that we refered
to the mailing lists.
I agree with Govind, from the reaction I was getting, I wouldn't be
surprised to see a few new faces at upcoming meetings. One guy in
particular knew about LUGOD, and told me "I've been wanting to come to a
meeting for about a year now, but I have a prior commitment on Tuesdays"
He seemed pretty excited when I told him we also meet once a month on
Mondays.
