I am reading through the following book.

SDL Game Development
By: Shaun Mitchell 

It covers SDL 2, but since it was written while SDL2 was in development,
you don't have to go through the process of building the libraries from
the Mercury repository. Thus far, the author assumes you have a good
programming background and jumps around a bit.
