I would go back to the HOWTO Document referenced.
Step 11 Common steps for all distributions
11 Common steps for all distributions
11.1 Kernel 2.6 driver configuration
11.2 Building the module
11.3 Configuration of X Window
11.4 Fine tuning the installation
Create the modules then run
/usr/X11R6/bin/fglrxconfig to configure X
I checked inside the RPM and the last thing it does is move your XF86Config
file out of the way and rename it. It is up to you to continue on with the
HOWTO and make and install the modules. Then configure X with the tool they
give you fglrxconfig.
