Greetings --

I am looking to purchase some new hardware for a dual boot machine.

So far i have priced out some parts at http://www.pugetsystems.com/ as
follows:

Motherboard Asus PC-DL Deluxe $264.60

CPU Intel Pentium4 3.06 GHz XEON 533FSB (2) $868.70

Ram OCZ Perf. - 512mb PC3200 (2) $296.80

Case Lian-Li PC6070 Silent Mid-Tower $203.00

Hard Drive Western Digital Raptor SATA 74GB $254.80

Video Card MSI GeForce4 Ti 4600 128mb 8X AGP $208.60

Power Supply Sparkle 460W Dual Xeon Power Supply $99.40

CPU Cooling Cooler Master Fan for P4 XEON (2) $18.90

TOTAL ~ $2300

I am interested in using this machine for number crunching / modeling / 3D
visualization in both windows / linux.

until recently i have been a mostly PPC person, and do not know much about
intel hardware and such. does anyone know if any of this hardware will have
problems with linux? furthermore, if it is number crunching that i am
interested in, would a dual 64bit machine be better? most of all the
software would be 32bit to start with, and i am just not sure if having a
64bit machine would make any difference...

any input on hardware / hardware sources / prices would be greatly
appreciated!!

thanks in advance!

Dylan
