So I upgraded my Debian testing system, and mail stopped arriving. (I run my
own mail server, using exim which is invoked via inetd.) Messages bounced
with a relaying-denied error. On my machine, /var/log/daemon.log. had many
entries like:
Mar 29 19:40:00 romana inetd[18733]: getpwnam: mail: No such user
Mar 29 19:40:18 romana inetd[18734]: getpwnam: mail: No such user
Mar 29 19:41:17 romana inetd[18735]: getpwnam: mail: No such user
Mar 29 19:45:08 romana inetd[18749]: getpwnam: mail: No such user
Mar 29 19:45:09 romana inetd[18750]: getpwnam: mail: No such user
Mar 29 19:45:11 romana inetd[18751]: getpwnam: mail: No such user
Mar 29 19:45:13 romana inetd[18752]: getpwnam: mail: No such user
Mar 29 19:45:15 romana inetd[18753]: getpwnam: mail: No such user
I restarted inetd, and all is now well. Did anyone elso experience hiccups
like this when upgrading lately? I'd file a bug but I don't really know whe=
re
to start!
