[vox-tech] radeon hw acceleration problems under debian unstable

hi all,

there are problems with radeon's accelerated opengl 3d graphics under X.
the problem manifests itself as the application working, except that no
graphics are displayed.

if you run glxgears, you get the FPS messages in the xterm, and a window
pops up that SHOULD show the turning gears, but the window is black.

another example, quake 3 plays normal, but you're blind.  you're
obviously playing the game, but the screen is black.  i tried to play
this way to see how high my midi-chlorian count was.

the bad news is that i am no jedi.    ;)

anyway, the problem is known about, and i'm passing along this info to
anyone who might be running a radeon under debian unstable and who is
experiencing problems with opengl.

I don't like that form letter, but the X maintainer requested that I
use it.

Yes, I figured this out awhile ago. The real bug is in GCC, and recent
versions of XFree86 are compiled with gcc 3.2, which has the bug.
Apparently XFree86 4.3 does not trigger the bug. I hope it enters
unstable soon.
