I don't know about ALSA... I have only used OSS and kernel drivers.

I think this needs kernel 2.4... have you upgraded?

You haven't said what you did for this yet.  I think there are several
kernel drivers that may apply, depending on which variation of AC97 you
have. I don't know how ALSA handles this.

Seems like you need to fix this section, or your video modes below
will be ignored. :)
