JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior System Engineer is a member of the UNIX system administration
team with an extensive knowledge of system related skills, including
hardware, software, storage, security and performance administration. The
Senior System Engineer independently performs complex system administration
tasks, including system configuration changes, software maintenance,
storage system changes, complex, multivariate troubleshooting, and the
development of non-trivial system routines and programs.  The Senior System
Engineer must be able to work independently and in a team environment,
supervise junior team members, and act as an authoritative resource for
peer team members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

      System management/administration of a large, heterogeneous UNIX
      environment supporting all phases of the system lifecycle for
      development, test and production installations.
      Management of a large, heterogeneous SAN-based storage architecture
      supporting the UNIX and VMS environments, including architecture,
      capacity planning and maintenance.
      Independently plans and execute new system installations and
      modifications to existing system configurations.
      Support periodic 24-hour on-call.
      Perform detailed system and network troubleshooting and communicate
      and implement necessary changes, modifications and patches.
      The Senior System Engineer is responsible for the proper design and
      maintenance of various UNIX based production systems hosting
      mission-critical applications such as SAP, PeopleSoft, and
      healthnet.com.
      The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for providing
      architecture, implementation, capacity management and day-to-day
      maintenance of our critical business systems.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
Bachelor???s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related
field is preferred, but experience can substitute.

Certification/License:
Certification in the area of event management, storage management and/or
Internet utilities is highly desirable. Highest level of certification in
Systems Administration in AIX, Solaris or HP-UX is highly desirable.

Experience:
      3+ years of EMC or HP storage management in a SAN environment is
      required. Expertise with ECCOE is preferred.
      At least 5+ years as a Systems Engineer or Administrator in a
      Solaris, AIX or HP-UX environment.
      Experience supporting Solaris or AIX is preferred.
      Experience supporting a variety of industry standard software
      products, including Apache, Oracle, Java Application Server,
      Veritas.
      Demonstrated expertise in enterprise system support over the course
      of at least 3 years.
      Proven shell scripting abilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
      Proven ability to deliver design, architecture, project support, and
      maintenance work in a large multi-vendor technical environment
      In depth technical knowledge with hardware architecture, operating
      systems, design, and implementation in large-scale multi-vendor
      highly structured computing environments
      Strong organizational, written and oral communication skills
      Some financial analysis skills to provide ROI and cost justification
      analysis on technical proposals suitable for presentation to senior
      management for approval of large scale capital expenditures

   Any combination of academic education, professional training or work
  experience, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the
                                 position.
