Description: Six Apart, the weblogging software and services company
         behind LiveJournal, Movable Type and TypePad, is looking for a
         MySQL DBA. The MySQL DBA will work closely with the Six Apart
         Operations team to ensure the integrity and efficiency of all
         production, staging, and business analytics databases,
         focusing on performance analysis, high availability, and data
         integrity.  The ideal MySQL DBA will have past experience
         maintaining a large group of database servers and have
         experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Perl, or
         PHP. The DBA will be an advocate for system improvement and
         reliability, focusing on scalability, clustering,
         load-balancing, and automation. This person must have a
         passion for quality work.

Details: Responsibilities  ?	Design, document, and monitor the MySQL
         and Postgres Database servers.  ?	Develop standards and
         procedures for maintenance and modification of database
         platforms.  ?	Provide systems architecture guidance in
         creating high availability systems.  ?	Provide direction in
         capacity planning, performance improvement, and storage
         management in partnership with Operations Engineers and
         Development teams.  ?	Plan and support the implementation of
         major architectural changes.  ?	Develop back-up and recovery
         procedures, including testing back-ups and data integrity.
         ?	Proactive and reactive performance analysis, monitoring,
         troubleshooting and resolution of issues.  ?	Assist Business
         functions on delivery of weekly business metrics data.
         ?	Assist the company in developing a data driven business
         culture.

Special Requirements: Requirements  ?	Bachelor's Degree in related
         field or comparable experience  ?	2-4 years of Database
         Administration with MySQL, Oracle, and/or Postgres on a Linux
         platform, 4+ years preferred  ?	Hands-on experience supporting
         very large MySQL environments  ?	5+ years of working in a UNIX
         environment  ?	Proven experience with database replication
         techniques, complexities, automation, monitoring, and
         high-availability strategies¬--use of 3rd party solutions in
         these techniques is encouraged  ?	Past experience with at
         least one scripting language (Bourne shell, Perl, PHP)
         ?	Previous experience working with SAs in the areas of
         storage, backups, and database operations processes preferred
         ?	Excels in a collaborative environment and is willing to own
         everything database!
