Job Description 
Symbol Technologies, Inc., a pioneer and world leader in mission critical
mobile applications and infrastructure technologies is looking for an 
experienced Senior Linux Engineer with specific expertise and interest in
developing world class enterprise mobility services products. The position 
will be responsible for packaging and integrating various software 
components to create and deliver stable Linux based software platform. 
Work with all the development teams to create early versions of the 
selected software to be deployed at customer’s sites. Develop production 
procedures to install and deploy the build from an image. 

Required Skills 

We are looking for a Sr. level engineer with the following skills: 

· Direct experience designing, installing and programming Linux on x86 
hardware in both clustered and non-clustered environments. 
· Production level experience managing UNIX kernel configurations and 
builds for at least 3 years. 
· Strong working knowledge of network and system administration from 
Linux perspective. 
· Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems with Linux servers accurately 
· 2+ years experience in Solaris or Linux with a strong background in shell 
scripting, perl or Tcl · Strong low-level Linux kernel debug skills on x86 
processors 
· Experience with FreeBSD a plus 
· Excellent hands-on knowledge with Java, J2EE, make, ANT, script tools and XML 
· 5+ years cross platform experience with Solaris, NT, Windows 2000 and Linux 
· Knowledge of J2EE Application Servers, Apache and other open source 
frameworks is a plus 
· BSCS or equivalent professional experience 
· Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills 
· Excellent analytic, problem solving, organizational and communication skills.
