The Linux Users' Group of Davis (LUGOD), will be holding a meeting on:
Tuesday
July 5, 2005
6:30pm - 9:00pm
The meeting will be held at:
Davis Public Library
Blanchard meeting room
315 East 14th St.
Davis, California 95616
The topic will be:
"Wine and Samba Integration Possibilities"
presented by: Juan Lang
Wine ( http://www.winehq.com/ ) is an Open Source implementation
of the Windows API on top of Unix and Linux. It is a compatibility layer
for running Windows programs -- it does not require Microsoft Windows,
as it is a completely free alternative implementation of the Windows
interface, consisting of 100% non-Microsoft code. Wine allows many
Windows programs to run on Linux, without modification.
Samba ( http://us1.samba.org/samba/ ) is an Open Source software suite
that provides file and print services to all manner of SMB/CIFS clients,
such as Microsoft Windows.
This talk will cover how the two projects can work together.
About the Speaker:
Juan Lang has been a Samba user since before Linux was 1.0, and a
Wine hacker for the past few years. He has been cheerleading for more
cooperation between the two projects, and this is an updated version of
the talk he gave at this year's WineConf in Stuttgart, Germany.
Juan has been a professional coder for over a decade. In addition to
being a Wine hacker, he is a PhD student at UCDavis, conducting
research in viruses and malware.
