O1 Communications, Inc is a full-service provider of data and voice telecommunication products and services for business organizations and communications solution providers. We are currently seeking a System Administrator with a strong focus on the Linux platform.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provides expert judgment and analysis for the design, implementation and management of the company’s Linux and hosting systems.
  • Responds to telephone calls, email, pager and personnel requests for technical support.
  • Supports and maintains user account information including rights, security and systems groups. Responsible for overall system security.
  • Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems.
  • Performs system backups and recovery.
  • Identifies and resolves production related errors.
  • Provides support to end users on a variety of issues. Identifies, researches, and resolves technical problems.
  • Follow project plans and meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Participate in team reviews to communicate and validate decisions.
  • Communicate with other internal operational departments on various issues
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of HTTP, DNS, SMTP, POP, NFS, SYSLOG and MySQL on Linux.
  • Expert working knowledge of the Linux operating system; the building, securing and administration of its services in RHE, CentOS and Debian is a must.
  • Good understanding of computer hardware and capacity to remove, install and upgrade components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot a variety of server and OS issues as well as network related issues with support in TCP/IP as applied to production services.
  • Ability in handling complex technical issues and providing timely solutions.
  • Ability to handle pressure and reacts quickly, professionally and appropriately to crises.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain focus on tasks in an environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to perform independently and cooperatively under the direction from department manager and/or team lead.
  • Must be flexible to work special projects and respond to calls outside regular hours.
  • FreeRADIUS, PHP, PERL, cPanel, Plesk, Windows Server, Oracle administration and Solaris experience is a PLUS.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Relevant Bachelor degree and/or combination of appropriate training programs.
  • 5+ years experience in a Systems Administration role.

Description: Long term contract or contract-to-hire opportunity for the right individual.

Duties:

  • Under the general direction of the Application Infrastructure Manager of the Infrastructure Services Division the incumbent acts as the project leader and high-level expert on Unix system administration, Weblogic administration and technical architect in support of the most complex and critical applications of high to extreme risk, where the consequence of failure could have a high to extreme impact on the business success of the Data Center.
  • Leads a team of Information Technology Specialists and consultants on one or more complex projects, and acts as the lead knowledge expert on the use of new technologies in the support of Unix and Weblogic systems.
  • Participates on teams in the analysis and design of new large-scale Solaris/Linux systems and/or modifications to existing systems. Performs high level analysis of Solaris/Linux systems and applications software requirements, processes and characteristics for the purpose of assuring efficient and effective software design and operation.
  • Recommends expansion/replacement of existing hardware and software components utilizing latest state-of-the-art hardware and software available.
  • Implements system software Solaris/Linux environment strategy for the data center. Defines controls to insure the integrity of the Solaris/Linux system design and the efficient and effective implementation of project level phases.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a technical lead or Unix administrator in an IT organization. Have technical understanding of Weblogic in a high availability UNIX environment.
  • Knowledge of applications development and software engineering principles to analyze, design and construct automated solutions that meet customers business and information systems requirements.
  • Ability to: Identify information technology solutions that will meet business needs and effectively coordinate and negotiate information technology transformation to the new systems or services; Create and deliver effective presentations that communicate with management, technical staff, customers, contractors and vendors; Plan, organize, direct and control work assignments and projects; Effectively utilize technical resources in meeting IT departmental needs.
  • Understanding of internet standards such as: DNS, FTP, SSH, HTML, XML, JDBC, SNMP and other protocols. Proficient in Scripting languages (Shell, K-Shell, Perl)

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Server consolidation via virtualization.
  • Server Based Computing
  • SAN Management and Design, Jumpstart, Solaris Volume Manager, Veritas NetBackup, LDAP
  • Web Servers, Network Security, IBM (ClearCase and ClearQuest) configuration management tools, Active Directory and security architectures.
  • Possess high degree of initiative.

Overview of MealWell:
MealWell (an entity of Med Health Solutions, Inc.) is a Davis, CA-based provider of a meal planning and diet optimization service delivered via the internet (www.mealwell.com). MealWell's fully-automated web-based service has been developed over the past year; the company recently launched its first contract with a major hospital group in Northern California. Doctors and other heath care providers affiliated with the group will offer the service to their patients who are most likely to benefit from dietary change.

Med Health Solutions recently acquired an organization that provides wellness and life-coaching services. This business will be integrated with MealWell and will enable the company to provide a full-service wellness offering in the near future.

MealWell's mission is to address the needs of organizations who want to provide a medically credible nutrition service to, and expand their relationships with, customers, employees and clients around healthy eating! Organizations that we anticipate developing partnerships with include, but are not limited to:

Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Product Development, on a part-time, flexible basis, candidate will assist team with required updates and new features. Depending upon business priorities, as well as qualifications and experience, programmer may be assigned tasks ranging from bug fixes, print style sheets, PHP Class cleanup and more, to large independent projects.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in OOP in PHP and MySQL required

Key responsibilities include ownership of maintenance and evolution of MobiTV's 24x7x365 MobiTV service network. As a System Administrator at MobiTV, you will have responsibility for the following activities:

Troubleshooting custom mobile applications, root cause analysis, and partner with engineering to build and deploy new and existing applications.

Focus on uptime, quality and security production equipment and services. 24x7 response to service outages. Routine system administration and maintenance and master new technologies as added to existing infrastructure.

Debug service issues, including analysis of client/server network traffic. Perform host resource management: bring new hosts online, maintain DNS, report on utilization.

Develop scripts and/or other programs to automate administration processes. Perform host equipment maintenance: process RMA documentation, troubleshoot hardware issues.

Be flexible to work within Microsoft Windows, Apple OSX and other environments. Perform additional duties as directed by management.

      • Experience with remote management of a data center: DHCP/PXE, SSH, VNC, etc.
      • Experience managing Unix daemons: Bind, Apache, Sendmail, LDAP, etc.
      • Experience working with databases, such as MySQL and/or Oracle
      • Expert knowledge of Red Hat Linux configuration
      • Strong abilities with scripting languages for administration: Bash, Perl, PHP
      • Understanding of IP networking concepts: routing, subnetting, access controls
      • Be able to use analysis tools: tcpdump, netcat, sar
      • Experience with configuring SNMP and monitoring tools such as MRTG and RRDTool
      • Willingness to travel as needed to data centers and remote sites
      • Ability to document solutions and train other staff
      • Ability to gracefully react to high-priority requirements with little or no notice
      • Ability to balance competing priorities and work alone or within a team equally well
      • Interoperability experience with Windows and/or OSX a plus
