This document describes the responsibilities of the Publicity Officer of the Linux Users' Group of Davis. (http://www.lugod.org/).It also has information that is relevant to the Publicity Officer. Namely, information about other user groups, and contact information for places to advertise events.
The Publicity Officer serves as a contact between LUGOD and both the general public and local media.
2a. LUGOD Event Annoucements
Anything that LUGOD wants to advertise (meetings, events, etc.) will go through the Publicity Officer. Events should be announced on the LUGOD website (via its online calendar), sent to the "vox-announce" mailing list (http://www.lugod.org/mailinglists/), and when applicable, posted as an event to LUGOD's Facebook Page, and then shared with LUGOD's Facebook Group.
2b. Other Groups' Events
On occasion, the Publicity Officer should visit the website of all the user groups around us, and note the date, location and topic of their next meetings.Working with the Webmaster, the Publicity Officer can recommend events to be listed on LUGOD's online calendar (http://www.lugod.org/calendar/).
The Publicity Officer may also present this information during the meeting.
2c. Misc
The Publicity Officer is also responsible for keeping this HOWTO document up to date, and responding to queries from the public and media addressed to pr@lugod.org.
