Makes me think of how dour things seem as far as UCD vis-a-vis FOSS.. the Computer Science dept. as well as the libraries seem content to keep on working within the confines of the megaconglomerate. Maybe ask some Law School folks-- I think they have some ACLU presence if not NLG. Maybe they better appreciate how important liberty-minded licensing is. </div><div>Also a thought crossing my mind-- "those were the days" when we had Installfests in the Engineering Bldg! Another sobering item.. some time ago I browsed the CS Dept site to see what research was cookin', found one of the decorated/published guys was busy systematically analyzing the contribution patterns of devs doing Github commits. Can't remember if the author is former Microsoft or still is. Basically-- taking full (profitable) advantage of our doing work in the open! Coincidentally, one of my fave podcasts had a mini-debate about this-- just how much openness is best for what situations, along with which Release Schedule approach has most advantages for a given Linux distro.
