You're thinking of VA Linux. I know, I unsuccessfully interviewed for a job there. :-(
Greetings to you all from rural Nevada! Not much of a Linux hotspot here, but our local ISP supports IPv6. There's an outfit in Carson City that recycles and sells old PCs and donates to charity. There kinda-sorta was a Reno LUG but it's moribund. Haven't checked to see if there are UNReno students interested in Linux but I'm sure there are a few.
