You make a great point, Nick. I credit Jello Biafra for turning me on to this way of thinking back when he espoused a "video taping truth Jihad" or some such (long before digital cameras..) with his line, 'BECOME the media." Which is the mission of a Community radio station, clearly. But I lack the free time as yet. Wish I could be staff there & make shows get honestly aired, honestly.
I did send along a link to my rant here to a couple of their Board Members (in the little Contact Form which they give instead of email addresses.) Nothing back yet.
My heartfelt thanks go out to the list for putting up with my venting. Will have to poke around wrt Municipal Broadband too.. we need advocacy on that score as well.

My presumption is that if one were to call & complain/ask about it, they'd cite "technical difficulties" -- which would be fine (though downloading an mp3 from their website is hardly difficult) but there's a definite pattern-- every time I notice this it so happens to be when there's big news about government/LawEnforcement overreach. This time: the Vault7 revelations

Unsure what kind of curation that amounts to, but honestly have begun suspecting there's person(s) at the station who seem to think the delicate KDRT audience doesnt need to know about their TVs and smartphones listening to them when they think theyre off. Or secret agencies leaving backdoors open on purpose for extended periods so they can continue to exploit them. If anyone has info as to the people empowered to make these decisions please do tell, on or off-list. I feel that this relates to Linux's philosophy of openness & transparency insofar as Net Neutrality is something KDRT has been known to espouse (along with LUGoD folk) and how would such spiking of content be remotely considered Neutral?
>> When she started in about the distressing removal of protestors I flipped over to the fuzzy KPFA signal where the up-to-date show was digging right in to the horrors of Vault7. Would such minders of a station really think their heavy-handed control would succeed with such a wide array of means to listen to DN!? Could be, I guess-- there's probably some oldsters or luddites that just listen to KDRT at 9 everyday. Would that they could be turned on to KDVS' airings at Noon.. but who can say.
