Here are the details for the GEO 298 Geospatial Studio for Spring Quarter:

Quantum GIS and Spatial Analysis Seminar

Professor Robert Hijmans

Spring 2011, Wednesdays, 10-12

PES 1137

Credit: 1-2 Units

CRN: 36148

Prerequisite: ABT 180, LDA 150, or equivalent. Graduate standing or consent
of instructor.

Could the GIS aspects of your research benefit from thoughtful and
collaborative input? Would you like to become proficient in Quantum GIS (a
free, open source GIS application)? If you are a graduate student and you
have completed an introductory GIS course, then have we got the student-led
seminar for you!

The first four weeks will be a crash course in Quantum GIS with lab
exercises. The rest of the course will take a clinic approach to individual
GIS work. Seminar participants will be expected to present a GIS problem
which is relevant to their research. The group will provide feedback on a
range of GIS topics, which include data acquisition, model design, analysis
techniques, and map design.

Next steps: register on SISweb and then download Quantum GIS (
http://www.qgis.org/wiki/Download).
