Reminder: Tonight, Monday August 16th, the Linux Users' Group of Davis will
be screening the short (~30 minute) documentary film
"Patent Absuridty: how software patents broke the system."
Made with support from the Free Software Foundation (FSF), and
produced using free software (Cinelerra, Audacity, Inkscape,
Python, Blender, and Ogg Theora and Ogg Vorbis codecs),
the film explores the case of software patents and the history of
judicial activism that led to their rise, and the harm being done to
software developers and the wider economy.
The film is based on a series of interviews conducted during the
United States Supreme Court's review of 'in re Bilski' -- a case that
could have profound implications for the patenting of software.
This meeting will take place at the Explorit Nature Center (previously
known as the Explorit Science Center's Mace Ranch Facility):
Explorit Nature Center
3141 5th Street
Davis CA 95616
The meeting begins at 7pm, and the movie will begin after
attendee introductions and some brief club business & announcements.
