The Silicon Valley Linux Users Group (SVLUG) meets this week in Mountain View:

WHEN:

  Wednesday, September 7, 2005
  7pm-9pm

MAIN PRESENTATION:

  TOPIC:
    Knoppix Technical Talk

  SPEAKER:
    Kyle Rankin

  BACKGROUND:

"Knoppix" is a wildly popular live CD distribution of Linux which
can be used to troubleshoot, repair, upgrade, disinfect, and generally
be productive without relying on the installed system or overwriting
    that system with Linux itself.

  ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Kyle Rankin is author of the book "Knoppix Hacks" (published by
O'Reilly and Associates). As such, he's eminently qualified to give a
technical talk for SVLUG about this topic. Kyle is also the president
of the North Bay Linux User Group (NBLUG), which meets monthly in
    Sebastopol, CA.

NIFTY OF THE MONTH:

This month's "Nifty" topic will be "Kismit":

Kismet is an 802.11 layer2 wireless network detector, sniffer, and
intrusion detection system. Kismet will work with any wireless card
which supports raw monitoring (rfmon) mode, and can sniff 802.11b,
    802.11a, and 802.11g traffic.

Chris Verges will show the basic interface and how to use Kismet to
scan for wireless traffic, for site survey purposes.

LOCATION:

  Symantec (formerly Veritas Software Corp.)
  VCAFE Facility
350 Ellis Street (near E. Middlefield Road)
  Mountain View, CA 94043

Directions on how to get there are listed at:

We've tried our very best for these directions to be accurate.
If you have any improvements to make, please let SVLUG's volunteers know!

PICN*X14 T-SHIRTS:

For those who were unable to attend last month's Linux anniversary picnic,
or signed up too late to get a t-shirt, Bill Ward will be accepting orders
  for shirts at this meeting.

POST-MEETING GATHERING:

If you just can't get enough, a smaller group usually goes to a local
restaurant/diner after the meeting. We'll announce the restaurant
  selection at the meeting.

We look forward to seeing you there!
