[vox] When did Linux start using MD5?

I think Mandrake had MD5 available as an option when I started using it in
2000.  Because MD5 is not compatible with NIS, both crypt-style and
MD5-style passwords were available as options at least until I switched
over to Debian, which I think was about a year ago.
