This is interesting - what sort of problems were you having with the courier
packages? what platform, and what version?

i am using:
fungus:/home/dylan# dpkg -l | grep courier
ii courier-authda 0.37.3-2.3 Courier Mail Server authentication daemon
ii courier-base 0.37.3-2.3 Courier Mail Server Base System
ii courier-imap 1.4.3-2.3 IMAP daemon with PAM and Maildir support
ii courier-imap-s 1.4.3-3.3 IMAP daemon with SSL, PAM and Maildir
ii courier-pop 0.37.3-2.3 POP3 daemon with PAM and Maildir support
ii courier-pop-ss 0.37.3-3.3 POP3 daemon with SSL, PAM and Maildir
ii courier-ssl 0.37.3-3.3 Courier Mail Server SSL Package
ii courier-webadm 0.37.3-2.3 Web-based administration tool for the

... and haven't experienced said problems....or it could be that i just
haven't *noticed* them yet!

perhaps this was related to an encoding issue? was it stripping the 8th bit
from EUC or shift-JIS encoded text? most of my traffic is using plain old
JIS, so its 7bit streams seem to be doing just fine. i am pretty sure
though, that when i tested sending EUC, shift-JIS, and unicode messages they
were fine.. but i could be wrong- it was a long time ago--

thanks for the info-
