I have set up a couple systems on JohnCompanies.com FreeBSD boxes
(they have since started offering Linux systems as well).

The very first thing I do is replace a bunch of their stuff with GNU
tools. Not having GNU ls and bash feels like a real handicap. I also
prefer GNU find.
