<br /><br />Apologies: in my haste I mistyped about "Elementary OS".. the Linux I was thinking of, which is basically a rip-off of Puppy, is called "Simplicity Linux". Elementary.io looks intriguing as they've released it for both PC & Mac (as if Mac fanboys would part with their precious OS X?) and it looks visually polished, receiving positive reviews from MSM mags like Wired etc.<br />And for a minute there I was wondering if "Darth Borehd" was but a M$ operative (troll) giving me the business-- I'd noticed that he sent a reply just to me & not the whole list, but I added back in the Davis & Sac UG addresses to keep y'all abreast of it. (& a quick search on the surname turned up only a Wookieepedia entry..)<br /><br />6. <br />Interesting summary! Indeed, Puppy Linuxes are fastest at most anything
since they're quite minimalist-- a potential concern with them is
security (everything usually runs as root.) The biggest problem with
Puppy is the vast number of derivations-- if you go with what
Distrowatch states is Puppy Linux you get a Slackware-based one
presently, while Elementary OS (which is just a Puppy but some guy
decided to drop Puppy from the name and did some marketing, which irks
us longtime Puppy followers) is Ubuntu-binary compatible I think, but
there are way better offerings IMO as someone who's tested lots of
Puppies. The originator of Puppy has put out "Quirky" which has in mind
keeping up with latest hardware, but it's sporadic.<br /> A well-put-together, and
well-supported one is FatDog64 (I looked up ExoPC, and it supports
64bit! I'm jealous.) but a newer seemingly-popular one is XenialDog

<div>Not commenting from a place of certain knowledge, but just as ideas-- Fedora is of course Red Hat's bleeding-edge offering, though it's a bit confusing to go from Debian-based to that world.. I'd say try Arch, which features a really great level of support in the forums. When I do searches for my obscure distro, I often end up using info found on the Arch messageboard. (Was just noticing an article in Linux Voice which looked at all distros and determined Arch the Most Recommended, actually.)
