I have my own machine, which is a toshiba laptop. I believe that i am installing netcdf through compiling since I have to use make files to install netcdf. I don't get any actual errors but I do not have all the files I need including netcdf.include<br>

In general you have access only to your home directory, /home/yourusername unless you use sudo or su to gain root access, giving you write access to everything. The problem almost certainly is that you do not have<br>
access to /usr/local.<br>
You will need to do one of two things.<br>
1. configure and install netcdf using sudo or logged in as root.<br>
2. choose a different location to install netcdf; one for which you<br>
have write access. You specify that by saying<br>
./configure -prefix=<path to install directory><br>
