No. There is support for xrandr, but it's built in so he doesn't need a
LoadModule to load it. See below where it says:

(==) RandR enabled
...
(II) Initializing built-in extension RANDR

(WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Unable to read EDID for display device CRT-0
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce 8600M GT (G84) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)
(--) NVIDIA(0): Memory: 524288 kBytes

(II) NVIDIA(0): Detected PCI Express Link width: 16X
(--) NVIDIA(0): Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU
(--) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s) on GeForce 8600M GT at

(--) NVIDIA(0): CRT-0
(--) NVIDIA(0): LPL (DFP-0)
(--) NVIDIA(0): CRT-0: 400.0 MHz maximum pixel clock
(--) NVIDIA(0): LPL (DFP-0): 330.0 MHz maximum pixel clock
(--) NVIDIA(0): LPL (DFP-0): Internal Dual Link LVDS
(II) NVIDIA(0): Assigned Display Device: DFP-0
(II) NVIDIA(0): Validated modes:

(II) NVIDIA(0): "1680x1050"

It is detecting the built-in laptop display. I assume at the moment the
external monitor isn't plugged in, so that would be what the message
means.

I don't see any particularly fatal error that should be causing the X
server to quit.
