It's almost certainly a hardware problem.  Make sure the fans,
especially the CPU fan, are working and not clogged with dust.
If you installed the heat sink yourself, note that heat sink
compound is a must.

Some cases just have poor ventilation, and a simple solution may
be to leave it open.
