Also try (on the smb.conf on the machine hooked up to the printer):

local master = yes

<or>

browse to the printer using windows explorer

\\xx.xx.xx.xx\printer under windows.

I think that you're dealing with windows name resolution (NetBios) not
working... browsing using the raw ip usually works (with the double
backslash format).

Try troubleshooting on the XP machine using the command prompt and:

$ net view \\xx.xx.xx.xx\

to see if the printer share is seen as available to the Xp client.

But the entirety of my knowledge about windows/linux networks would fit
on a 5.25 single sided floppy (single density); luck be with you (it
seems to me that windows networks run on luck alone).
