That's because you're not using it the right way.  :-)  Try doing whatever
you normally do with apt-get, but do "s/apt-get/aptitude/g".  In other
words:

   aptitude update
   aptitude install wonderpackage
   aptitude remove --purge badpackage
   aptitude dist-upgrade
   etc.
