[vox-tech] no boot on G4 laptop

Hi all:

I am a mac-clueless-type, and a friend of mine has a G4 laptop that refuses to
boot.  He says the problem is with the display, but the LCD is just really dim,
there are images that come up.

The problem:

Power up the machine, the little apple comes on screen, with the little
spinning icon-thing to let you know it's doing something.  It never boots.  He
even tried doing an 'option/x' (or maybe it's open-apple/x) to force a boot,
but no dice.

Is he dead in the water, or is there some other thing I can suggest to him?
