[vox-outreach] Contacted CheapBytes for WEF/GTC discs

I've just sent an email to the friendly folks at CheapBytes to see if they
could help us out with Knoppix, GNUWinII and/or TheOpenCD discs to give out
at Whole Earth Festival and Government Technology Center next month.

I did this for a few reasons:

  1. I haven't received much response with regards to folks from LUGOD
burning discs this year. (Perhaps we're all 'burnt out'? Har har!)

  2. I think we can afford it (assuming it's not $4/disc!)
We don't need anything fancy like the hard jewelcases and full-color
screens we got when Z-World donated discs to use. We don't need
high-quality sleeves and color screens like the Knoppix For Kids discs.
We just need something simple, like the Oracle9i and Oracle10g discs
we've given out in the past.

(Unfortunately, those are made internally at Oracle; I was hoping
they outsourced, so we could use the same company!)

  3. Managing volunteers (10 discs here, 50 discs there, sometimes labelled,
sometimes not, sometimes with sleeves, sometimes without) is tedious.
I don't have time for it this year, and I doubt anyone else wants that
     job! ;^)

  4. It'd be very nice if we could have a professional set of discs for
GTC this year! (Rather than random kinds of sleeves, hand-written
sharpie labels, the occasional unreadable disc, etc.)

If CheapBytes is unable to help us before WEF and GTC (they're only
about 3 weeks away!!!), does anyone else have any recommendations for
inexpensive, quality CD mass production???

I'm thinking we need between 200-300 discs for WEF, and another 200-300
if we make it to GTC this year.

(We gave out 300 Knoppixes last year, and all of the GNUWinIIs we had.
I don't remember what the quantity was for those. Fewer, is all I remember.)

:^)

Thanks! And wish us luck!

PS - I don't think I knew CheapBytes was out of Lodi!
(Between Sac & Stockton) Have they always been???
