Hello all,

Sacramento State is recruiting a Linux SysAdmin position. The
position description that's posted may not give a clear picture so
I thought I'd make some basic statements on what I interpret
the position to entail. NOTE: I am NOT a spokesperson for the
University! I just work there!!

This position is with the main IT group (almost all campus computing
is now centralized). On the Linux side, there's about a hundred systems,
give or take, virtually all RedHat (with a couple key CentOS systems),
mainly database (Oracle), clusters and standalone, web servers,
miscellaneous support systems and the general collection you would
expect. We rely on Puppet, Ksplice, and Redhat subscriptions
to keep things in sync and running. Almost all systems are virtualized
via VMware and a NetApp/NFS backend. This position works with the
Networking group as necessary, but does not support the Network.
(so no DNS/DHCP, routing, etc. But host-based firewall knowledge a
must. Knowledge of sendmail useful, but not at the enterprise level.)

Pay isn't as draconian as the ad states, and there shouldn't be much
in the way of management duties (the Linux side is currently a staff of
one).

If you're looking for a Linux sysadmin position in a University that will
keep you busy but not overwhelmed, I encourage you to check it out:

Job number 100826, http://www.csus.edu/about/employment then
select external applicants - staff and management.

Again, I am NOT an authorized University representative. I'm just trying
to spread the word along...
