Initially you'll check logs to ensure our software is running okay,
and patching them for upgrades off of the version control system. You
won't be doing any UNIX admin work - we have a separate team for that
- but it'll certain help to have UNIX admin knowledge when something
goes wrong with our software. Eventually you'll take calls from
traders about any problems they're experiencing and looking through
the codes and databases to troubleshoot issues. Occasionally you may
find yourself fixing problems on-the-fly on a live system handling
lots of $$$ while a trader is losing money by the second - if you're
an adrenaline junkie you'll love it. Sometimes you'll write scripts
to address a wide-spread issue. And you'll be doing a lot of
code-reading. But the coding specifically isn't a part of the job
description.

We use two types of databases, one being Sybase, so it'll be helpful
to know SQL. The other is a proprietary database.

Our Solaris hardware is typically the latest and the greatest
offerings from Sun with multi-core, multi-CPUs with a ton of memory.
Most customers have several machines running in parallel to handle
trading. If you ever wanted to see how a real-life parallel systems
work this is a good chance to see one such model in action. Our
company one of the few often invited by Intel and AMD to preview new
prototype CPUs before the release to test out their performances on
financial trading systems.

Let me know if you have any questions. Mention my name in the
application and I get a finder's fee - but more importantly you'll get
a nice treatment at the interview, they like me in the SF office. =)
