Unix Systems Administrator - Contract Position (Part-Time) 

Location: Fremont He.net Facility
 
Overview: 
Support day-to-day operations and provide tier-2 support for all system and network
issues with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise, and timeliness.  Help
with the design and continued maintenance of the corporate and production environments. 
 
Responsibilities:
Plan, order, deploy, test, and document UNIX/Linux infrastructure on a per project or as
needed basis. Responsible for operationally excellent management of UNIX systems and mail
infrastructure required to keep CNM Labs' web properties running in a 24x7 environment.
Required to contribute to the selection, design, and implementation or hardware,
operating systems, and technical solutions to solve business problems. 
Follow established security guidelines. Monitor system and network security. Suggest and
implement security improvements as needed.
Perform steps using established procedures to ensure that software, servers and network
equipment have high integrity and reliability.
Design, develop and/or modify various scripts (bash/Perl etc.) as needed for efficient
operations, automation and monitoring of server and network environments.
Test and install system patches in a timely manner. Upgrade device firmware as needed.
Participate in on-call responsibilities, including off-hours server administration and
handling of escalations. Resolve system and network problems in a timely and professional
manner.
Optimize system performance by maximizing network/server uptime at low operational costs.
Develop and participate in test procedures/audits to ensure minimum time-to-repair for
system failures and disaster recovery procedures.
Maintenance of current IP network
System backups and monitoring.  
Manage telecommunications operations
 
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
Linux experience a must
Symantec Backup Exec or other backup software
DNS (Bind is a plus), DHCP
Apache
Router/switch/firewall configuration
In-depth knowledge of Solaris, Linux, Apache mandatory - Individual must be able to
articulate advanced technical topics (e.g. process scheduling, kernel internals, TCP/IP
communications at all levels). 
Strong experience with system management tools, logical file systems, and client/server
environments 
Scripting expertise (Bourne, Perl, Awk, Sed, etc.) 
Basic knowledge of networking, storage, databases, client-server and web applications 
Communication skills must be A+ 
Solid, demonstrable problem solving ability 
Strong Team work 
Independent worker 
Ubuntu and Red Hat Linux experience preferred 
Prefer those with internet service experience, experience Managing/Tuning SendMail and
Postfix mail infrastructures and candidates who have been in 24x7 operational
environments.
