Required Technical Skills
- Java Expert
- Proven experience working with PERL and C++
- MySQL or other database experience
- 8+ years integrating content management systems, including 
high-availability databases
- 5+ years architectural leadership experience with multi-terabyte 
database-backed hosted web applications; well versed with both OLTP and 
OLAP systems
- Must have hardware scaling and software tuning experience; experience 
designing software systems for hosted environments; extensive knowledge 
of networking and network protocols; design patterns and distributed systems
- 5+ years experience building J2EE web applications (using JSP, 
servlets, struts )
- 5+ years LAMP stack experience (LAMP = Linux, Apache, MySQL, 
Perl/PHP/Python)
- 5+ years detailed data modeling experience
- 5+ years experience with at least one, preferably two, major 
commercial RDBMS
- Understanding of issues related to business logic in stored procedures 
vs. in middle tier
- 3+ years experience with web page templating frameworks in J2EE and LAMP
- Must have used at least one application framework for a modern agile 
language (Ruby, Python, PHP, Perl) such as Zope, Ruby On Rails, 
HTML:Mason, TurboGears (6 months - 1 yr ) and be able to articulate the 
risk/reward of using an agile framework.
- Intimate understanding of the issues around the use of web 
infrastructure technologies such as session management, web caching, 
virtual hosting, DNS

Summary of Role and Deliverables
- Define the technical implementation for our online offerings, working 
from high level product requirements and detailed UI specifications and 
prototype
- Work directly with product manager and UI designer to understand 
business and user requirements and flesh out technical implementation 
based on those needs
- Identify and drive selection of 3rd party and open source tools, 
applications, and components for integration into offering
- Develop architecture strategy, including migration and implementation plan
- Implement the product offering using your preferred tools
- Mentor the other developers on the team, do code reviews, and help 
guide process

Additional Requirements:
- Desire to work in a small, fast-paced environment
- Must have experience working in small companies (<50 people)
- Must have experience implementing a market-successful 1.0 offering
- Able to understand business objectives and translate product 
requirements and UI requirements into working product offering and documents
- Ability to define architecture, implement offering, and lead/mentor 
team of engineers
- Excellent interpersonal skills, although a bit of over-confidence is 
acceptable just so long as you can back it with awesome coding
- 8+ year successful track record designing and developing complex 
multi-tiered high performance Web applications (please provide list of 
sites developed)
