    PEAK Internet Services, headquartered in Corvallis, OR is	
seeking a Systems Administration Manager.  Qualified applicants       will
have extensive experience in systems administration as well	   asand
management experience. 	We are seeking a highly motivated person
with strong	   troubleshooting abilities to join and lead our Systems
     Administration and Network Engineering team. Candidates should	
be able to create, maintain and manage a strong team process for	our
system engineering staff as a way to ensure a reliable       network and
high quality services to for PEAK clients, customers	    and PEAK Help

Reporting: 	    Commensurate with experience, position reports to
president/CEO  Engineering Environment:   	     PEAK is a the
Mid-Willamette Valley?s leading local ISP,	  based in Corvallis,
Oregon, with a complete menu of Internet	access and Web services
services, including statewide broadband       DSL and nationwide dial-up
around the state of Oregon. The       network?s core infrastructure is
Linux/FreeBSD with a	    smattering of other boxes.	Services include
email, web, mail	lists, DSL, Frame, UnixUNIX shell, custom
programming and       managed services.   Responsibilities: 	
Manages the day- to- day technical operations of a small to	   medium
sized ISP. Provides task management and project       management services
for the engineering staff.  Ensures quality	   control processes on
system and network management.       Establishes/recommends policies on
ongoing system use and       services.  Provides technical lead and
supervises systems	  administrators and system programmers.

Management    Qualifications:  Usenix Sage Job Description:  Senior
(Sage level 3/4)  	    Required Skills:  	Strong
inter-personal and communication skills; capable of	     writing
proposals or papers, acting as a vendor liaison,	  making
presentations to customer or client audiences or	  professional
peers, and working closely with upper management. 	     Ability to
solve problems quickly and completely.	Ability to	    identify tasks,
which require automation and automate	       themexecution. 	 A
solid understanding of a UNIX-based operating system;	       understands
paging and swapping, inter-process communication,	   devices and what
device drivers do, file system concepts	 ("inode", "superblock"),
can use performance analysis to tune	      systems. 	  A solid
understanding of networking/distributed computing	   environment
concepts; understands principles of routing,	      client/server
programming, and the design of consistent	   network-wide file system
layouts. 	    Ability to program in an administrative language (Tk,
Perl, a	 shell), to port C programs from one platform to another,
and	     to write small C programs.  Required Background &
Experience: 	       More than five years previous systems administration
management experience. 	  Local Environment Experience:	
Experience with Linux Redhat, Freebsd, LDAP, MysqlMySQL, Cfengine, PHP,
Perl     Management: Experience	     Managed a team of
engineers/systems administratorss	   Used and managed ticketing
system, 	  Experienced with project management
Heterogeneity Experience: 	    - Familiar with sites running more than
one UNIX-based 	 Operating system. 	     -Familiar with both
System V and BSD-UNIXbased UNIX operating systems.	    -Experience
with Windows 2000 and NT services a plus. 	    -Cross- platform
integration is valuable.      Programming Skills :	 Good
programming skills in Perl, PHP, C. 	      Awareness of Cfengine a plus
    Networking: Skills 	   -Experience configuring automounters.
       -Experience with Storage management. 	      -Experience with
TCP/IP networking protocols	     -Experience with Network Debuging
    -Experience with high-speed networking: ATM, DSL, Frame Relay, SONET,
		    Ethernet, DDSand DDS. 	    -Solid Understanding of
Layer 2 switching Architectures	 -Familiarity with Layer 4-7
switching concepts	    -Ability to work with multiple
physicalmultiple physical transports including 	-Single mode fiber,

Servers   Hardware:  	   -Experience installing and maintaining
the network cabling in use at the site 	-Experience installing
boards and memory into systems.	 -Experience
Iinstalling/configuring peripherals      Desirable: 	 A degree
in computer science or a related field.  Extensive	 programming
background in any applicable language. Publications within	 the field
