The Linux Users' Group of Davis (LUGOD) will be holding the following meeting:

  Monday
  April 18, 2016
  7:00pm - 9:00pm

Presentation:
"Configuration Management with Puppet: Present and Future"
presented by Greg Larkin, Puppet Labs

In this talk, Greg Larkin, an engineer with Puppet Labs, will discuss
some of the historical issues with system management, how Puppet
works, how it fits into current types of infrastructure deployments
and what some of its enterprise features are. The talk will touch
on high-level concepts as well as show some code and how it enforces
node configurations. The talk will also cover new Puppet developments
that were recently announced during PuppetConf 2015.

About Puppet:

Puppet is an open-source configuration management tool. It runs on
many Unix-like systems as well as on Microsoft Windows, and includes
its own declarative language to describe system configuration.

Puppet is produced by Puppet Labs. It is written in Ruby and released
as free software -- under the GNU General Public License (GPL) until
version 2.7.0, and the Apache License 2.0 after that.

About the Speaker:

Greg Larkin is a Professional Services Engineer at Puppet Labs.
He has worked as a software developer since the 1980s. In the mid-90s,
acting as a self-employed software development consultant, he became
involved with many teams of geographically-distributed independent
consultants, and began setting up source code control repositories for
these teams. Out of this, SourceHosting.net, the first Internet-based
hosted source code repository service, was born.

After discovering Puppet in 2012, Greg launched Devopsify IT!, a
consulting business focused on assisting and mentoring clients with
their first steps towards a more automated and reliable deployment
  architecture.

About Puppet Labs:

Founded by Luke Kanies in 2005, Puppet Labs is the leader in IT
automation. Their software helps sysadmins automate configuration
and management of machines and the software running on them.
With their software, businesses can make rapid, repeatable changes
and automatically enforce the consistency of systems and devices,
across physical and virtual machines, on-premises or in the cloud.

Tens of thousands of the world's leading companies (including Bank
of America, Cisco, the New York Stock Exchange, and salesforce.com)
use Puppet to manage millions of machines and devices.

Based in Portland, Oregon, Puppet Labs employs more than 400 people.
